The majority of the Mbizana Municipal Council is made up of members of the African National Congress (ANC), which is the ruling party. The Municipality is governed by a council of 61 members, 8 of which make up the Executive Committee (EXCO), including Her Worship the Mayor Honourable Councillor Zoleka Busuku. There are also 298 Ward Committees who work with councilors to represent the 31 Wards of the municipality, and 25 Community Development Workers (CDW's). Most members of the EXCO preside over specific portfolio committees, which ensures active participation by councilors. There are six Portfolio Committees.
